Healthy Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

You may have heard of the whole banana ice cream craze that’s been going on lately; I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time, but again, that whole laziness factor. Not anymore! Today we’ll be making that amazingly healthy and delicious ice cream. But not just any plain old boring banana ice cream…

Healthy dark chocolate chip ice cream!

Let’s get started: First, you’ll want to peel and cut a very ripe banana (it should have brown spots) into chunks and freeze. When it’s completely frozen, toss that baby into your food processor. I also added about half a tablespoon of milk but I really don’t think you need any.

Puree until it looks like soft serve ice cream! Amazing–and SO EASY! But we’re not done yet…

Add some dark chocolate chips…

Pulse a couple more times, until you’ve distrubuted that goodness into tasty little bits.

Enjoy! Next time, I’m definitely going to put this goodness into a cone, because it reminded me of the stuff you’d get at McDonald’s (so soft and creamy!). This recipe/trick is seriously so versatile that I’m already dreaming of the endless healthy and delicious creations I’ll be making.

The Verdict: The hubs and I both LOVED this stuff. He said it “tastes like a banana split.” Pretty good considering the fact that he was trying to study and I should have been leaving him alone! Bananas are also a great source of potassium, fiber, Vitamin C, and manganese. Adding the dark chocolate chips gives you an extra antioxidant boost, too–I think we’ve found the perfect healthy treat!

You have no excuse not to eat ice cream every day!

What did you think of this recipe? What’s your favorite way to eat bananas?

Keep in touch, and keep it real!

  1. Amazing!!! I can’t wait to try this! I bet it would be delicious with a little bit of nut butter and/or coconut mixed in too!

    • Mmmm yes I was thinking something along the same lines! I seriously went out and bought more bananas yesterday and am waiting for them to get overripe! Usually I’m looking for the ones that are still green ;)

Um, like I told you in person. This is SOOOOOOOOO good. Can’t believe it isn’t actually ice cream. The husband is still skeptical that it is healthy even though I told it several times it is. WE used bananas, chocolate chips (about 5) and two Marachino cherries.
